Waking on Water Street Writing Series on Imagine Northeast Iowa
We want to publish community member’s stories about life on Water Street! Water Street in downtown Decorah is, in many ways, the heartbeat of the community. Its eclectic mashup of businesses and organizations create a completely unique and totally charming scene. But there’s so much more to Decorah’s “main drag” (not to be confused with Main Street– that’s a block south!).
It’s easy to forget that above the shop doors, there are countless living spaces that have served as a home base for many. Water Street is a neighborhood too! That’s what we want to hear from you about, on Imagine Northeast Iowa’s new spring story series– Waking on Water.
Here’s how it works:
- Now through May 31st, submit your stories about living on Water Street– or interview someone who has. We know a lot of life has been lived in these spaces! Signup to blog in seconds. It’s easy and free.
- Once your post is published to the site, we’ll let you know right away, and you can start sharing your story via email or social media with your friends, family, and fans. Your “Waking on Water” feature is also guaranteed to earn you a few bucks.
- We’ll share each story across our own social media channels and together we’ll help weave together a tapestry of precious Decorah stories of a similar thread. It’s going to be so much fun!
**Do you have a great story to share, but aren’t up for writing? We’ve got you covered! Visit imaginenortheastiowa.com and fill out our survey on the Waking on Water story. We’ll drum up a piece for you!
Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity is currently seeking a partner family for its next building project, slated for Ridgeway, Iowa. Partner families must have employment, demonstrate that they currently have an inadequate housing situation, and, working alongside volunteers, be able to invest many hours of labor or “sweat equity” into building their homes and the homes of others. For more information, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org, call (563) 382-1802, or visit www.winneshiekhabitat.org.
Join others in NE Iowa to count birds this weekend for the Great Backyard Bird Count. The 20th annual GBBC is taking place February 17-20 in backyards, parks, nature centers, on hiking trails, school grounds, balconies, and beaches—anywhere you find birds.
Bird watchers count the birds they see for at least 15 minutes on one or more days of the count, then enter their checklists at birdcount.org. All the data contribute to a snapshot of bird distribution and help scientists see changes over the past 20 years. It’s fun to see who is participating in NE Iowa. Contact Dennis Carter at 563-382-3754 or Connie Hvitved 563-547-4685 or any Upper Iowa Audubon Society member for more info.
