The public is invited to a free special tour of the Porter
House Museum’s historic gardens at 1p.m. on Saturday, June 15th.
The tour will include a walk through the museum’s grounds,
exploring the unique landscaping and plantings. Several items in the gardens are very old, and
date back to the time of the historic inhabitants, Adelbert Field Porter
(1879-1968) and Grace Young Porter (1880-1964).
The tour will be led by Peter van der Linden, an expert
gardener who is also helping to coordinate the volunteer care of the museum’s grounds
Both before and after the special tour, the public is
invited to “porch” at the museum—to enjoy the afternoon while seated on the
historic Queen Anne porches and enjoying refreshments and lemonade.
This tour is the first of several free, special-topic events
in the new Summer Tour Series at the Porter House Museum. Two additional free,
themed special tours on other topics will be held later this summer.
More information about tours and events at the Porter House
Museum is available at porterhousemuseum.org. In the event of inclement
