Four Mondays, January 7, 14, 21, 28, 2019 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church, 302 W Broadway St, Decorah, IA in the first floor education wing Learn the essentials of meditation
Learn the essentials of meditation in a few simple steps. It’s easier than you think!
Each session includes a meditation practice, discussion, and video teaching with clear instructions on the basics of meditation practice, guidelines for daily practice, and advice for bringing mindfulness into your everyday life.
In meditation we explore the landscape of the heart and mind with awareness. What we discover is a true and lasting happiness that does not depend on the outer conditions of our lives.
With this relaxed, spacious approach to meditation, we learn to use every experience as an opportunity to awaken.
The DVD teachings are by Mingyur Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist monk who was born in Nepal and heads the organization Tergar. He has written “The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness” and “Joyful Wisdom: Embracing Change and Finding Freedom.” His approach to meditation is that any experience in daily life can be used as a support for awareness, which stems from his own experiences as child, when he used meditation to deal with anxiety and severe panic attacks. His playful sense of humor shines through, even in video.
These teachings can be practiced by beginning and experienced meditators, and people of all faiths and belief systems. All are welcome. If you can’t make it all four weeks, come when you can.
These sessions are free with free-will donation for space rental.
