Event Details

Luther College welcomes a collection of on and off-campus performers during the Spring Block Party, taking place from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at Bentdahl Commons on the Luther College campus.

The event is open to the public with no charge for admission. In case of rain, the event will be moved inside to Marty’s in the lowest level of Dahl Centennial Union.

To kick off the event, Luther junior Fez Mnisi performs at noon, followed by first-year Burke Wallace. Soultru performs at 1:15 p.m. and will be followed by Inasmuch at 2:15 p.m. and Meadowlark Valley, including senior JJ Schrick, junior Andrew Moore and sophomore Josh Van Sant, at 3:15 p.m.. The final performance of the day is Soul Sherpa at 4 p.m..

Mnisi will sing original songs about her and her friends’ experiences, written in both English and Swati, the language spoken in Swaziland. Wallace’s performance will include folk, alternative and overall relaxing music. Soultru, also known as Terrance A. Banks, is a singer, songwriter, poet and emcee and a native of Davenport, Iowa. He is currently based out of the Quad Cities, combining his poetic and lyrical talents with a soulful voice. Inasmuch will have a set of sad music played by generally happy people, playing emo, funk, punk and pop-punk music.

Meadowlark Valley is the music of multi-instrumentalist Schrick with influences stemming from performers such as Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty and Andrew Bird. Soul Sherpa is a funk, soul musical collective ranging from five to ten members. From a groove pumping rhythm section to a four-piece horn section, they mash multiple styles and genres to create a massive musical experience.

Along with a diverse collection of music, street-style tacos and milkshakes will be available during the event. Tickets for the tacos can be purchased at Marty’s for $3 each.

This event is sponsored by Luther College’s radio station KWLC and Student Activates Council entertainment.

A national liberal arts college with an enrollment of 2,005, Luther offers an academic curriculum that leads to the Bachelor of Arts degree in more than 60 majors and pre-professional programs. For more information about Luther visit the college’s website: http://www.luther.edu.
