Event Details
Increasingly, this question hangs in the air: who and what is to be believed about the conflicting representations of reality that we encounter on a daily basis from so many sources and which continue to define unfolding world events?
Come join us for a viewing and discussion about the evocative interview between Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman and author Naomi Klein. In her newly-released book, Doppelganger, Klein explores the origins of this dilemma, and what she calls “the mirror world,” a growing alternate universe of misinformation and conspiracies that, while identifying real problems, opportunistically exploits them to advance a hateful and divisive agenda. What has brought this about? What role can citizens in any community play in healing the conditions that have led to it?
We are all enmeshed in a complex web of relationships based on perceptual lenses that have been shaped by historical events, changing modes of communication, choices and fear. Says Klein, we ignore this tapestry of divisiveness at our own peril. Though it might be challenging, do we need to examine information sources more carefully to expand our understanding of their credibility? Can we find ways to actively listen and communicate outside of the current patterns? We will explore together how the interview might lead us to some answers.
