The Seven Words of Jesus Christ on the Cross will be performed by Andrew Last and Jonathon Struve, baritone soloists, Kathryn Reed, organ, and the Good Shepherd Choir, and conducted by Brooke Joyce as part of the Good Friday Worship Service in the Good Shepherd sanctuary. The 15 minute piece, written by Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672), is considered to be one of the cornerstones of Baroque sacred music, and will feature Struve as the Evangelist and Last as Jesus.
Jonathon Struve is Adjunct Faculty in Music at Luther College and holds a PhD with emphasis in vocal literature from the University of Iowa. He is active as a recitalist, specializing in French, German, and English art song.
Andrew Last is Associate Professor of Music at Luther College, where he conducts the Nordic Choir and teaches conducting. He also serves as Director of Choral Activities at Luther and Director of Dorian Summer Camps.
Kathryn Reed teaches harpsichord at Luther College and directs the first-year common course, Paideia. She maintains a studio of private piano students ranging from 8-adult, and co-directs Burning Bright, an annual community benefit concert.
Brooke Joyce is the Composer-in-Residence at Luther College and Director of Music at Good Shepherd.
