NE Iowa Peace & Justice Center, Inc. is hosting the first in a series of wintertime potluck and discussions.
This one will feature the showing of two short animated films from The Story of Stuff Project, sharing of local foods and an opportunity to learn about, question, strategize, and imagine ways to address social and environmental problems related to our use of energy and materials.
The non-profit Story of Stuff Project’s journey began in 2007 with a short, engaging film about the way we make, use and throw away all the Stuff in our lives. Since then, they have continued to utilize a simple, artistic documentary style to build awareness about the root causes of many of our social and environmental troubles. Their mission goes well beyond that, however, to include resources like study and training programs plus curriculum materials to assist change-makers worldwide, working to build a more healthy and just planet.
The evening will begin at 5:30 with a local foods potluck where attendees will be challenged to bring food to share that features at least one local ingredient (local meaning produced within no more than 100 miles from Decorah). The person providing the dish with the most local ingredients will be celebrated with a surprise. Please bring your own table service and a card listing which are the local ingredients in your offering.
Two Story of Stuff films will be shown as fodder for discussion and brainstorming shortly after the meal.
(Thursday) 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
