SEPTEMBER PROGRAM MEETING on Monday, September 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the
Decorah Senior Center, 806 River Street.
Our guest lecture will be presented by Loren Evenrud, formerly of the Decorah area, now
living in Cannon Falls, MN. Evenrud will talk about THE TYLER FAMILY BAND, a
group that played for dances locally in the late 1920s, ‘30s, and ‘40s. His close
connections to the members of the band include his mother, Edith Tyler Evenrud, and her
three brothers, Leonard, Spencer, and Ralph, and their father, Burt Tyler.
The family lived in the Clay Hill neighborhood north of Decorah. In addition to farming,
they regularly took their music to local dance halls, including the popular Matter’s Ball
Room. Evenrud will talk about his mission to sort out and piece together the story
surrounding the Tyler Family Band. He will share their stories and the history
surrounding this musical family.
Please join us for the evening. All DGA program meetings are free and open to the
general public. The Decorah Senior Center is handicap accessible and there is off-street
parking next to the center. Everyone is welcome.
