Event Details

Iowa City author Tim Johnston, in conversation with Decorah-native author Peter Ylvisaker, will hold an author talk and book signing for his absorbing new crime novel DISTANT SONS (Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 2023) on Wednesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pulpit Rock Brewery Event Room at 207 College Drive, Decorah. This free event is sponsored by the Oneota Valley Literary Foundation with support from Pulpit Rock Brewery. Book sales by Dragonfly Books.

Instead, over the course of just a few short weeks, Sean and Dan form a deep friendship as they get drawn into the lives of the people they meet—from Denise and her father, to Marion Devereaux, who needs some work done on his house, to Corinne Viegas, a savvy detective with top-notch instincts—all haunted in different ways by the disappearance of three young boys decades ago, in the 1970s. And as these characters converge, an irreversible chain of events is set in motion that culminates in shattering violence, and the revelation of long-buried truths.

Tim Johnston is the author of THE CURRENT and the New York Times-bestseller DESCENT, as well as the short story collection IRISH GIRL, winner of the Katherine Anne Porter Prize in Short Fiction. Johnston is also the recipient of the 2015 Iowa Author award. He holds degrees from the University of Iowa and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and made his living as a carpenter for 25 years. Johnston currently lives in Iowa City, Iowa.

Peter Ylvisaker was born in Seguin, Texas in 1962. He moved to Decorah, Iowa with his family at a young age where he survived Thomas Roberts Senior High School before graduating from Luther College. He left Decorah for Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1984, where he made a decades-long career for himself as a writer and creative director for both small companies and global tech giants. He is the author of the acclaimed GROWING UP DECORAH duology and the recently released WHITE COLLAR: A EULOGY.
