Come to Decorah Public Library Tuesday January 14 at 6:30 p.m. to learn about weather and climate change in your own backyard. Amy Bouska is a retired actuary who returned to her native Cresco after a career that took her to insurance centers around the world. She loves spreadsheets and, after becoming concerned about climate issues, was ecstatic to find a huge collection of weather data from cities around Iowa.

The climate scientists tell us that the world is- on average- becoming warmer and wetter, but what is happening HERE in Decorah?  Hint: You’ll be surprised by the answer. After looking at the Decorah data, Bouska will review some of the changes to date as well as predictions for the Upper Midwest region more broadly.

Finally, she will briefly consider (but not resolve) the question of individual versus nation-state action: can we stop climate change by what we do (or don’t do) as individuals? What does the data say? Come for the discussion.
