CNA Certified Nurse Aide – Part-time

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs selected and delegated nursing tasks in the care of patients under the supervision of a registered nurse, including the administration of select medications and performance of designated procedures.


Maintains competency to provide care to the ages of the patients served within the assigned unit. Validates essential skills on an annual basis. Responsible for own continuing education (personnel file), and takes responsibility for helping to meet own learning needs.
Performs duties as learned in the Certified Nurse Aide course. Accepts reasonable work assignments as assigned by the nursing staff. Assists patients with ADL’s. Assists patients in preparing for tests, x-ray, therapy, activities, physician visits, etc.
Uses time wisely as evident by spending extra time with patients, doing extra cleaning, restocking, or assisting elsewhere.
Keeps work area and patient’s environment neat and clean.
Demonstrates flexibility in willingness to work extra or take staff adjustment days, as census/workload requires.
Maintains supplies and equipment by assuring they are used when needed, reordered when low or out, and in the location designated. Charges appropriately for supplies and treatments.
Assists the RN in assessing patients and identifying physical and psychosocial needs. Orientates patients to room and equipment.
Documentation is done according to RHSHC policy/procedure. This includes accu checks, vitals, weights, intake, output, and dietary intakes.
Communicates effectively with co-workers, physicians, and ancillary staff relevant to patient information. Acts as a liaison between patient and other members of the health care team. Reports changes in patient’s status to RN promptly.
Can activate, perform and direct Emergency Action Codes: i.e. Fire, Tornado, Disaster Plans, and CPR.
Reacts in a calm, rational, immediate, reassuring manner. Able to provide direction in emergency situation, stat requests and orders.
Complies with policy for patients at risk for falls, insuring necessary safety precautions are taken. Complies with policy for use of patient restraints, geri chair use, and use of mats.
Able to operate equipment used to carry out nursing duties and skills. Reports and documents hazards or malfunctioning equipment immediately.


Nurse Aide certificate from the State of Iowa
CPR (healthcare provider) certified within 3 months of hire
