Event Details

This is a beginner-friendly woodcarving class that covers the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to sculpt beautiful figures from wood. Throughout the course, we will cover essential safety protocols, wood selection, tool identification and usage, basic carving methods, sharpening tips, and applying finishes to your creations.

We will begin with a simple project that will help you build a solid foundation in wood carving. As you progress, you will have the freedom to choose your own unique wood carving project, whether it be a figure or an ornament, the choice is up to you!

This class runs in person for four Saturdays, February 7-28 (9:00 am-Noon CT).

Rebecca Hanna of Decorah, Iowa, is passionate about many Norwegian folk arts, especially woodworking. A graduate of Luther College in elementary education and museum studies, she is a retired elementary school teacher. Rebecca is a Vesterheim Gold Medalist and was instrumental in the creation of Vesterheim Magazine, Vol. 3, No. 2, dedicated to woodworking.

Vesterheim offers a 60% discount for in-person class tuition on a space-available standby basis to any year-round resident living within 50 miles of Vesterheim.
