Porter House Museum
The Porter House Museum seeks a part-time independent contractor to manage our historic house museum that is open through the summer season and sponsors lectures, concerts, and other special events in the off-season. The collection includes exotic
butterflies and other natural curiosities as well as antiques.
Qualifications: Prior managerial experience, excellent communication and writing skills, willingness to work collaboratively and seek consultation, experience with
technology systems and social media.
The museum’s active and helpful board seeks a self-starter and team player to carry out the following duties:
Essential administrative tasks: Be the point-of-contact for museum inquiries via telephone, email, social media, etc.; maintain museum files in print and digital formats; other tasks as needed.
Coordinate and supervise volunteers and contractors: Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for the open season (May through Sept.); oversee tour season; coordinate contractors to maintain the yard and exterior, and interior cleaning/maintenance; alert and assist board in identifying needed repairs and maintenance.
Direct communications: Coordinate and be the point person for twice-annual newsletter; manage membership and communications with members and donors.
Promote the museum to the public and community partners: Maintain museum website and social media; prepare and disseminate media announcements; prepare
and post helpful signage; other promotional tasks as needed.
Additionally, the Manager works with the board in the following ways:
● Collaborate on special events and programming
● Participate in fundraising and grant proposals
● Cooperate with the museum’s curatorial work
Other duties as needed/assigned, with potential for the position to grow in duties, time, and salary.
The manager reports to the board president as needed and to the board of directors at monthly meetings. Monthly salary is based on 15 hours per week, with hours per week varying significantly. More hours are required before and throughout the open tour season (May Sept.) and fewer during the offseason.
