Math Tutoring (September-December)
My name is Jacob Klingsten, and I am a professional Math tutor with multiple years of experience from Elementary Math to AP Calculus AB (equivalent of Calculus 1). I have tutored over 500 sessions to 50+ students in person and through online platforms such as Varisty Tutors and GoPeer. I am also a Luther College senior studying Music Education in my final semester on campus.
One-on-one math tutoring is a fantastic way to help reinforce past material, work on current material, build great studying/organizational strategies, and provide them with critical thinking strategies that can assist them in other academic subjects.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in answering the bigger questions beyond the calculation side of things (such as “why does this work?”, “how does this work?”, “why is this important?”) using a variety of different approaches to math that engages students.
MY PRICE: My rate starts at $25/hour and increases slightly depending on the kind of math your student needs help with. What I can tell you is this: I almost always charge less if you pay for a number of sessions ahead of time.
FREQUENCY: I am very flexible with how often or sparse you want tutoring sessions to be. I am also flexible with how long you want sessions to go. Typically, I prefer at least 45 minutes and no more than 3 hours at a time, but I am willing to change that depending on your student and any details that make your request unique (i.e. you would rather have more frequent 30-minute sessions, etc).
AVAILABILITY: During the fall semester, I will be available during the evenings from 5-9pm during the week, and my weekend availability varies (just ask). During the first few weeks of September, I will still be solidifying my academic/extra-curricular schedule, so weekly sessions will be solidified by the middle of September. I am also happy to take new students at any point during the semester.
LOCATION: Since I am a student, time is money, which means that Preus Library will be the location of our meeings. Preus has a lot to offer: it’s a quiet but warm and welcoming environment, it has study rooms with whiteboards/chalkboards are available for check-out, and it provides a variety of different spaces for learning depending on the student’s needs (different seating, open space, etc). Additionally, you are more than welcome to sit in on any sessions we have so you can see how I tutor. After the session is over, if you have recommendations for me to make the experience better for your student, I am more than happy to hear them.
