Summer Math Tutoring (July-August)
If you have a K-12/college student(s), are a K-12/college student, or know a K-12/college student, do you worry about the possibility that during the summer months,
- They might forget some or a lot of the math they learned during the school year, or
- They barely made it through math this last school year and would benefit from solidifying that material before the next school year starts, or
- They have much more free time now, but during the school year they get really busy and sometimes struggle to stay on top of school work because they’re so involved, or
- They might not be prepared going into their next math class in the fall?
My name is Jacob Klingsten, and I am a professional Math tutor with multiple years of experience from Elementary Math to Calculus 1. I have tutored over 400 sessions to 30+ students during my time as a tutor, and I have tutored on online platforms such as Varisty Tutors and GoPeer. I am also a Luther College senior studying Music Education, and I will be staying on campus during the summer months of July and August for the sole purpose of tutoring math and teaching music lessons!
Whether one, some, or all of the above scenarios apply to your student, one-on-one math tutoring is a fantastic way to help reinforce past material students, prepare them for the upcoming school year, give them a head start, and provide them with critical thinking strategies that can assist them in other academic subjects. Additionally, my teaching philosophy is grounded in answering the bigger questions beyond the calculation side of things (such as “why does this work?”, “how does this work?”, “why is this important?”) using a variety of different approaches to math that engages students.
MY PRICE: To reach as many students as possible, I am not putting a specific price on my services. My hourly rate will be a product of what you think is reasonable (name your price) and what I think is reasonable (negotiation). If your price seems reasonable to me, then I won’t question it. If your price seems unreasonable, I will counter with an offer of my own. What I can tell you is this: I almost always charge less if you pay for a number of sessions ahead of time.
FREQUENCY: I am very flexible with how often or sparse you want tutoring sessions to be. I am also flexible with how long you want sessions to go. Typically, I prefer at least 45 minutes and no more than 3 hours at a time, but I am willing to change that depending on your student and any details that make your request unique (i.e. you would rather have more frequent 30-minute sessions, etc).
AVAILABILITY: My open times during the week are from 10:30am to 5:30pm every week day. I am able to tutor sessions after 5:30pm if you would prefer, but it depends on my schedule during those evenings. Additionally, I will be out of town from July 15-19, so no tutoring sessions would occur that week.
LOCATION: I am more than happy to meet at a variety of locations, including your home, Preus Library on Luther’s Campus, the Landing, Impact Coffee, etc. I am able to adapt to a variety of environments, but when choosing a location, I want to make sure that the student (1) is in an environment that is comfortable for them, (2) is able to focus without distractions, and (3) has access to materials that will help them succeed (WiFi, whiteboards, etc). For me personally, I prefer Preus Library because it’s a quiet but warm and welcoming environment, it has study rooms with whiteboards/chalkboards are available for check-out, and it provides a variety of different spaces for learning depending on the student’s needs (different seating, open space, etc). If you have a preference for us to have sessions, I am not picky. Additionally, you are more than welcome to sit in on any sessions we have so you can see how I tutor. After the session is over, if you have recommendations for me to make the experience better for your student, I am more than happy to hear them.
If this sounds like something you’re interested in, if you have questions, or if you just want to know more about my service, please feel free to reach out via email (jacobktutoring@gmail.com) or text (logged in DecorahNow users can see my phone number). You can also message me on DecorahNow. I look forward to helping your student this summer!
