Decorah Public Library presents: Moonlight

Decorah Public Library and ArtHaus are pleased to announce the next film for Decorah Public Cinema. Moonlight will be screened on Friday, October 9 at 8 PM in the library’s mezzanine.

Decorah Public Cinema screens independent, award winning, classic, and foreign films on the second Friday of each month, creating a space for the community to gather and enjoy thought-provoking films in a relaxed, welcoming environment. All screenings are free and open to adults 18 and older.

October will feature Moonlight, Barry Jenkins’s 2016 award-winning coming of age masterpiece, starring Trevante Rhodes, André Holland, Janelle Monáe, Naomi Harris, and Mahershala Ali.

A timeless story of human connection and self-discovery, Moonlight chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami. At once a vital portrait of contemporary African-American life and an intensely personal and poetic meditation on identity, family, friendship, and love, Moonlight is a groundbreaking piece of cinema that reverberates with deep compassion and universal truths. Anchored by extraordinary performances from a tremendous ensemble cast, Barry Jenkins’s staggering, singular vision is profoundly moving in its portrayal of the moments, people, and unknowable forces that shape our lives and make us who we are.

“We’re thrilled to partner with ArtHaus to show movies you might not get to see without taking a road trip.” said Zach Row-Heyveld, DPL assistant director. “We know there are a lot of film fans in the area and we’re excited to fill a gap in what movies people can see in town.”

Complimentary popcorn and snacks will be available, with a free will donation box to support future programming. Seating is first-come, first-served, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early. Doors open at 7:30.
