Join us for an afternoon of revitalizing our Earth, our Soil, our Soul through natural movement and thinking through the body.
On Sunday, September 27, Jane Hawley and Brenda Harris come together at Sissa to guide an afternoon of gentle Qigong, Movement Fundamentals, breath, and somatic movement, creating space to slow down, restore vital energy, and reconnect with the natural wisdom of the body.
If you’ve been in Decorah for a while, you may already know their work.
Jane Hawley brought embodiment and somatic dance to this community and founded the dance program at Luther College. She has spent years helping people experience movement as something more than performance: a way to listen, explore, and connect with our bodies.
Brenda Harris is a local acupuncturist and Qigong teacher who has been practicing in this community for years. Her work is rooted in Chinese medicine, Qigong, and the connection between our bodies, energy, and the natural world.
Guided gentle movements, explored by your body, breath, and mind, will revitalize the relationship between your human body and our Earth, approaching them as partners for creating and sustaining life.
For millions of years, the Earth beneath us has modeled a collaborative, interactive, and interdependent journey of growth, decay, and renewal. We, too, have similar intelligence woven into our beings.
The wisdom of the earth and our body is not new; it is simply unattended. The ancient yet timeless lineages of Qigong combined with the modern intuitive practices of Movement Fundamentals provide a powerful present dynamic to help us attend to and remember our inner and outer environments.
Through experiential questions and cues such as: What is needed? How am I moving? Listen within. Visualize your inner landscape. We will investigate the tapestry of our inner and outer worlds, exploring the vital relationship between the human body, our Earth, and their co-creative healing power.
This retreat is for anyone longing to slow down, reclaim stability, restore vital energy, and reconnect with the natural wisdom of their body. Through gentle, accessible movement, participants may leave feeling more grounded, present, and connected.
No experience is necessary. Bodies of all abilities, ages 13 and older, are welcome.
