The Assistant Director of Financial Aid is responsible for advising students and parents about financing their Luther education and serving as the main facilitator for the awarding of financial aid.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary contact for the Financial Aid office in the absence of the Director.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director to compile data for reporting purposes.
  • Complete need analysis, special circumstance analysis, and calculate financial aid awards and award revisions for current and prospective students.
  • Advise students and parents about all aspects of the financial aid process including initial application, award explanation, renewal procedures and financing options.
  • Processes withdrawal and readmit paperwork utilizing Federal databases to monitor loan history, determine FAFSA completion and calculate federal refund/return amounts.
  • Work with the Data Processing Clerk to calculate federal refund amounts.
  • Makes updates to the financial aid portion of the college’s website.
  • Oversee the utilization of the Net Price Calculator (NPC) tool, respond to inquiries, track data, and analyze reports. Work with College Raptor to update data annually.
  • Coordinate the awarding of financial aid for
  • Luther’s summer sessions.
  • Administer the college’s Satisfactory Academic
  • Progress (SAP) policy with the assistance of the Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and direct the daily work of the Financial Aid Office non-exempt staff.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:

  • Education: B.A. or B.S. degree required
  • Experience: Five to seven years of experience in a financial aid office desirable.
  • Ability to manage multiple, detail-intensive projects simultaneously. Exceptional verbal and written communication and customer service skills are essential.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time, includes exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or the ability to lift, carry, push or pull, or otherwise move objects with a negligible amount of force.
  • Pleasant; smoke free, air-conditioned work environment in summer and comfortably warm in winter.
