Summer Voice/Music Literacy Lessons (July-August)
My name is Jacob Klingsten, and I am a Luther College senior studying Music Education, and I will be staying on campus during the summer months of July and August for the sole purpose of teaching music lessons and tutoring math (see my Math Tutoring Ad here)!
In lessons, we would identify goals that you (or your student) have, discuss ways that we could meet those goals, and then work towards those goals!
If you’re looking for a more voice-based lesson, we would likely vocalize, decide on/learn/run vocal music, discuss vocal technique, textual components, how to make the music unique to you, and a bunch of other elements (depending on your level). I will take students of all ages and all levels (including complete beginners)!
If you’re looking for a more literacy-based music lesson, we would likely discuss a bit of music theory, do some ear training/aural skills activities, use solfege, rhythm systems, and sight reading! Again, I will take students of all levels of experience (including complete beginners)!
I am more than happy to combine Voice and Music Literacy if you would be interested in both! Additionally, if you would like lessons on beginner Piano, Ukulele, and/or Guitar, I am also able to provide those services.
MY PRICE: To reach as many students as possible, I am not putting a specific price on my services. My hourly rate will be a product of what you think is reasonable (name your price) and what I think is reasonable (negotiation). If your price seems reasonable to me, then I won’t question it. If your price seems unreasonable, I will counter with an offer of my own. What I can tell you is this: I almost always charge less if you pay for a number of lessons ahead of time.
FREQUENCY: I am very flexible with how often or sparse you want lessons to be. I am also flexible with how long you want sessions to go. The standard for music lessons are usually 30 minutes once weekly, but I am willing to change that to twice weekly, 45-minute lessons, or others depending on your student’s needs.
AVAILABILITY: My open times during the week are from 10:30am to 5:30pm every week day. I am able to teach lessons after 5:30pm if you would prefer, but it depends on my schedule during those evenings. Additionally, I will be out of town from July 15-19, so no lessons would occur that week.
LOCATION: I am more than happy to meet, including your home or Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on Luther’s Campus. I am able to adapt to a variety of environments, but when choosing a location, I want to make sure that the student (1) is in an environment that is comfortable for them, (2) is able to focus without distractions, and (3) has access to materials that will help them succeed (A piano, WiFi, etc). For me personally, I prefer Jenson-Noble Hall of Music because there are plenty of practice rooms, pianos, and performance spaces. If you have a preference for where you would like us to have music lessons, I am not picky. Additionally, you are more than welcome to sit in on any lessons we have so you can see how I teach.
If this sounds like something you’re interested in, if you have questions, or if you just want to know more about my service, please feel free to reach out via email (jacobktutoring@gmail.com) or text (logged in DecorahNow users can see my phone number). You can also message me on DecorahNow. I look forward to teaching your student this summer!
