Electronics & Scrap Metal Collection Event Recap

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our Electronics & Scrap Metal Recycling Event this past Saturday! Because of the support from our community, we were able to responsibly collect and recycle a large amount of material that may have otherwise ended up in a the landfill.
Here’s a look at some of the items collected during the event:
47 TVs
21 Dehumidifiers
12 Computer Monitors
10 Microwaves
7 Air Conditioning Units
7 Refrigerators/Freezers
6 Washers/Dryers
2 Stoves/Ovens
Total: 112 units
We also received a lot of scrap metal and other small units.
Events like this help keep valuable metals out of the landfill while ensuring electronics and appliances are handled safely and responsibly. We appreciate everyone who took the time to clean out unwanted items and support recycling efforts in our community!
Couldn’t attend the event and still need to recycle electronics or appliances? No worries! We accept all these items during our normal business hours! We are open Monday to Friday from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Electronics & Scrap Metal Recycling Day

We are excited to announce that Winneshiek County Recycling and Winneshiek Energy District are hosting an electronics and scrap metal collection event on Saturday, May 16th from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Winneshiek County Recycling Center! Our address is:

Decorah, IA 52101
Please see the attached flyer for more information. We hope to see you there! Remember, you can recycle any of these items during our normal business hours (6 am to 3 pm M-F), but this is your chance to do it over the weekend!

Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Meet 2026

This FREE event will be held Tuesday, May 19, 4:30 pm, at the Decorah High School Track.
To register, see links below. Preregistration is strongly encouraged, but late registration will be taken beginning at 4:00pm near the track entrance on the day of the event.
IMPORTANT: The only participation restriction is age. A participant’s age is as of December 31, 2026.
Born in 2018-2019 (7 & 8 y/o) Born in 2016-2017 (9 & 10 y/o)
Born in 2014-2015 (11&12 y/o) Born in 2012-2013 (13 & 14 y/o)
***6 and Unders can participate, just do not attend state meet***

Need your Perennial Plants Thinned or Re-Homed?

 

Do you have any plants you need thinned, removed or re-homed? The Winneshiek Master Gardener club would be help you with your project.  The funds raised from our plant sale goes to a variety of projects—flower baskets for local towns, city beautification projects, helping new members with the cost of becoming a Master Gardener, etc.  Our volunteer members would dig up the plants sometime during the week of May 3rd.  Please keep in mind certain plants cannot be removed in spring and successfully survive.  For further information or notify our club of your need to thin or re-home your perennial plants, please contact the ISU Extension office at 563-382-2949. 

The Winneshiek County Master Gardener club is looking for people who need perennial plants thinned or re-homed.  We use funds from our plant sale for a variety of projects in Winneshiek county.  Our volunteer members would dig up the plants sometime during the week of May 3rd.  We may need to leave certain plants that cannot be successfully transplanted in the spring.  If you have a need to thin or re-home your perennial plants, please contact the ISU Extension office at 563-382-2949.
